Overcome with Good

The Five Minute Friday word is overcome.

Romans 12:21 overcome

Overcome with Good

Don’t let evil, the hard or bad or completely wrong, wrong, wrong things that happen in life conquer you. Those hard things that weigh heavy on your heart and mind. That fill your thoughts with revenge. Don’t let it do you in. You weren’t meant to be controlled by the terrible choices of other people. You’re meant to overcome that which was done to you with something greater. Something that has the power to conquer all that is evil and wrong. Something greater than the bad in this world.

That something is good.

Overcoming, conquering good.

This world desperately needs good. Doing good is a hard choice. It comes from a life that is a living sacrifice. One that isn’t prideful or revengeful.

That kind of good can’t come by willing it to be so. Instead, it’s rooted and driven by God.

A life lived in the power of God can overcome evil.

Oh, that we would drink deep of scripture. Oh, that we would pray. Oh, that we would be the ones who sacrifice.

Then the overcoming of evil gets its victory.

An Overcoming Prayer

Lord and Friend, When evil is done to me or someone I care about, I don’t think about good. I get angry. And I know you’re angry at sin. But I don’t stop at being angry. I stew and, sometimes, I let my anger out—all over the place. Part of me doesn’t believe that good will conquer. Can good really change things? Help me to cling to truth.

Even as I turn toward your truth, I can’t possibly return evil with good unless you transform my heart and mind. There’s a lot of hurt in this world, a lot of wrongs. Raise up a multitude who are willing to be your good in this world. How do you want me to be a force for good? Amen.

How are you overcoming evil?

What are ways you are overcoming the wrongs in your life and in your world? Take heart Jesus has already overcome the world.

Visiting as your tardy FMF neighbor. Love the prayer.

I am overcoming evil one day at a time. You have to take it day by day. Satan always lobs new darts at us. He adapts. When we overcome in one are, he attacks in another. I believe prayer and the Word serve as our weapons. Thanks for sharing.

One day at a time is all we can do. Prayer and the word are our weapons. Today, I was reminded of the importance of forgiveness. It is an act of overcoming good that heals the forgiver and opens the way for the forgiven to find healing too.

If we all lived like this the world would be a pretty amazing place!

A world filled with people who chose to do good would be wonderful. In eternity, it will be. Until then, we are called to be overcome with good.

Reminds me of the quote from Edmund Burke, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

In the course of my life I sometimes found that the good had to be accomplished through the use of a Barrett M82 .50 cal. rifle; sometimes you run across evil that has to be stopped right now, and the beast was good for that.

    #1 at FMF this week.

Passivity in the face of evil is partnering with evil.

There are people who are so bent on evil that the only answer is completely stopping them from more evil.

I wish it weren’t so. I’m thankful for those who are willing to stand up to evil. We need more.
