More fun with PVC Pipe

More fun with PVC Pipe

I have enjoyed watching my children explore the world of fun found in PVC pipe. I never knew how much fun it could be. I wrote about the PVC Pipe Sand and Water Table and the marshmallow shooters for Bear’s birthday party. Now, we have ample supply of PVC pipe, connectors, T’s and elbows in our house.

There were two fun activities my children invented themselves (so, I can take no credit for creativity).

A second use for the marshmallow shooters

I am not sure who came up with the idea, but I found my youngest one able to make her shooter work. They came up with the idea to take a long plastic spoon and shove it in the backend of a Nerf bullet. Put the new bullet in the front of the shooter and blow. The kids had a blast. Here is Baby Cakes making her shooter work.

A Rainy Day Turned fun

Making a tent out of sheets and blankets has been around for long before I used to do it as a child. My children are not new to the idea. We had a rainy day, and I suggested they get out the PVC pipes and sheets. They immediately went to work. Since the pipes were not cut to a particular size, they had to use connectors to make the pipes the length they wanted. In no time, they were residing in their new home. The best part, it is all run by kid energy and kid genius creativity.

I remember last Christmas thinking I would make a PVC tent for my kids. I wanted to make it for them. I did a number of searches on Pinterest to see how others had done it. While their tents (the ones on Pinterest) were beautiful, I am very happy with my kids creations. It is as big as they want–and the design is theirs. And, as if that weren’t enough, they can redesign and build again.

Give it a try

Go down to the Lowe’s or Home Depot or wherever you buy PVC and get a few lengths of 1/2″ PVC pipe, a set of elbows, T’s and connectors. Buy a PVC pipe cutter if you plan on easily cutting the pipe. The one we have is owned by my 8-year-old, Bear. It is simple (and fun) to use.

Please leave a comment to let me know your adventures in PVC pipe fun.
