God Quotes: When We Need it Most

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Hebrews 4:16 NLT)

When We Need it Most

Because of who Christ is and what He completed on the cross, a believer has free access to the throne of God. It is open and free. There are no barriers. And the call to the believer is to come. Come boldly. What is available? Mercy and grace. Timely mercy and grace. It's just what we need and when we need it.

Receive His Mercy

The barrier is no longer there. Mercy is ready to be handed out. Don't we all need God's mercy? Mercy forgives and extends compassion and kindness. Where condemnation is deserved, mercy provides pardon. How can a just God extend mercy to the criminal and still be just? Christ's sacrifice provided all that was needed. In Christ, God's justice is met and God's mercy is ready to be given.

When I am wallowing in my own failings, I need to receive His mercy. There is no amount of right living that can extinguish my guilt. I can never out-good my bad–not in my conscience–although there is a part of me that wants to do it that way. But if I go to God with all of me–especially the unseemly parts–I can know God's mercy. When I receive His mercy and allow it to penetrate deep into my soul, my conscience is freed.

Find His Grace

Grace. God's grace. While mercy forgives, grace gives. God's grace gives His goodness. With a clear conscience, we can receive the good gifts God has. His goodness is neither deserved nor earned. He lavishes His goodness in grace. Need strength for the moment? Need forgiveness for the unforgivable? Need peace in your heart? Go to the throne and find His grace. Strength, forgiveness, and peace are gifts of His.

When We Need it Most

God's timing and my timing often quarrel. I feel the edginess rise in me as my timetable is turned upside down. Ironically, I, one who struggles with being punctual, want God to be early or on time. I get it all figured out in my head what needs to happen and when. So, in this verse, I am reminded of God's timeliness. As I go to him, the resources are there for what I need and when I need it most. Do I trust Him in this? Just as I want my children to trust my heart, I must choose to trust God's perfect heart towards me. Anything lacking is not because of His lack of resources. His loving choice of “no” or “wait” is hard but is purposed with a loving Father's heart. May we trust Him.
