God Quotes: He will fight for you

He will fight for you

But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” (‭Exodus‬ ‭14‬:‭13-14‬ NLT)

Can you see the story in your mind? The Israelites are fleeing Egypt with the Egyptian army in hot pursuit. God had already done amazing miracles, but they were scared out of their minds. I know I would be. I’ve been scared (paralyzed-with-fear scared). It is so difficult to describe that kind of fear. Utterly helpless and, at the same time, knowing God has been faithful. Knowing God’s faithfulness doesn’t always erase fear. Fear is a living, breathing beast that must be fought. The biggest battlefield of fear is in the heart and mind.

Moses told them to stand still and watch. He told them the future reality of their enemy as well as how they would be defeated. He told them to stay calm. These words are perfect for anyone in the midst of fear.

Stand still

This is not intended to be permanent. (They did need to move forward.) It is important to stop and not do what feels like the solution to the problem. When we rush in and quickly solve, we make poor choices. Fear is a terrible decision maker. Stand still on the outside as well as the inside.

Watch the Lord

This reminds me of “Be still, and know that I am God.” Once the answers aren’t all up to us, we can turn our eyes to Him. He is the source. God is active even when we cannot see what He is doing.

Rescue

I can get caught up in thinking rescue means the situation will turn out with me on top–that I get the victory, and I don’t have any loss. God is working something bigger than what we can see here and now. There is a rescue of our character and faith that often happens through loss. There is a deepening of the soul that occurs on the other side of fire-like difficulties. We might be looking around and wonder where God was as we feel deep loss, but that is only because we cannot see how He stripped us of our ugly pride and self-promotion. Do I pray for safety? Yes. Success? Absolutely. When that doesn’t happen, I have to return to faith in God’s character and to the fact that He is working a bigger plan. I have to choose to trust His heart.

Stay calm

God knows we are frail. I remember a night My racing thoughts gripped my heart with fear. I could feel my heart thumping in my chest. I did not know how I could sleep with my mind racing. I prayed and prayed. All I can remember is waking up the next morning. God calmed my heart and gave me rest–there is no other explanation. God was so good to me that when I couldn’t calm myself, He calmed me.

In the story, God provided miraculously for His people. He enacted the plans He had to both provide for His people as well as judge the Egyptians. He is active and alive. He is working. Stay calm as you look to God as your source. He will provide exactly what you need. Will you trust Him? Will you rest in Him?

Pray to Him now

Father God, you know about…. I choose to look to you and you alone as my source and my rescuer. Help me to follow your lead. Calm my anxious heart. In Jesus name, Amen.

    Cheryl,

Yes, he fights for us – always. If we can just remember he is “for us”. We wont feel life is so “against us”. Wise words. I love this post and how you have dived into this truth. Can’t wait to hear your words on #RaRalinkup this week!
