God Quotes: All grace abound

All grace abound

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV)

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT)

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV)

abounding and purposeful

All grace abound

When the author of  By Grace Alone pointed out 2 Corinthians 9:8 in reference to “Grace Produces Generosity,” he used the ESV version of the Bible. But grace isn’t always translated in the Bible as “grace” in English. I looked up three different translations. They were all rich with meaning. Words in one language don’t always translate into another language simply in one way. And when it comes to the word “grace,” it is easy to see how that word could be translated differently.

How do you define grace?

Grace: it’s a big word, rich with meaning. If you take all three of these translations, it is clear that grace is the provision of whatever you need. God is the source, and He is a generous giver. His blessing, His provision, His grace is abounding and purposeful. We all like the idea of abundance, but we forget that His goodness has a purpose.

For pouring out

grace for pouring out

That grace He gives, at just the right moment and in completely generous portions, is for pouring out. I long for blessing and provision and grace. I pray for it. And yet, I primarily call out for it for my own need. I am not thinking about the purpose. I am thinking I need it for me. In the heat of moment, I am lost in my own need. I forget that He longs to give so that I can be an instrument of His grace to others. It has been said “You are blessed to be a blessing.” God makes all grace abound. It is all-sufficient grace. It is what is needed. It is abundant. And it is for pouring out.

There is no loss here

It is not like His goodness is limited. If God wants me to give away anything–my time, my things, my heart–He is able to fill that back up with Himself. They are all gifts from Him in the first place. So, rather than holding on tightly, I can let it go. There is endless resource found in Him–for His purposes.

I know this, and yet

I know this is true, and yet I need to be brought back to the truth of it. I convince myself of my poverty in a situation. I’m poor. I think. I can’t. I don’t have what it takes. I can’t possibly... At that place of my own emptiness, He is in position to pour His grace. His grace poured out on me leads me to Himself.  His grace gives me the desire to please Him. Then, He pours out even more in the form of ability and provision so that I can walk in Him–sharing and abounding in every good work.
