God Quotes: God’s Proof that He Loves You

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT)

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. (1 John 3:16 NLT)

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. (1 John 4:9 NLT)

This is real loveā€”not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:10 NLT)

How can you know if God loves you?

Some would say that love is found in the blessings. He answers prayers. He provides abundantly. But what can be said when the answer is no? When the healing doesn’t happen. When suffering and hardship come. And stays for days, weeks, months. And years. Isn’t the hardship proof of the absence of his love?

Examples of loved believers

In reading the writings of Paul, you’d think God hated him. He lived a hard, hard life. Imprisonment, beatings, martyrdom. And yet, he wrote about God loving him.

John, too, wrote about God’s love. His life was far from what my Western worldview would imagine as blessed. Hardship. Suffering. And yet, again, he had confidence in God’s love for him. There was no doubt. Where did his confidence lie?

God’s proof is in the gift of His Son

Again, and again, the proof is in the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus. He loved you and loved me so much that He gave His Son as a sacrifice. While we deserve to be punished forever for our sin and rebellion against God, He planned restoration. He planned redemption.

The writers of the New Testament go back to this principle truth: God’s love is proven in the gift of His Son.

But I feel unloved when hardship comes.

There are no easy answers to the questions raised by suffering. Countless books have been written about suffering. But suffering was never intended to be the litmus test of love.

The expression of love God’s love is in providing an unending relationship with Him. It cost Him. Dearly. It was planned at the beginning of time.

Not a consolation prize

This life is brief in comparison to eternity. The pain here and now is real, but it will end. And on the other side is forever. Forever with no pain. Forever with no suffering. Forever with unrestrained, unending expressions of God’s love. He loves you so much that He wants that for you.

And for now, He provides grace in midst of suffering. He provides comfort. And somehow, and I cannot explain or comprehend it, He has a way to transform the evils in this world into usable good for us. That usable good may be in the form of character. It may be in future rewards in eternity. But He will transform it. He will use it. Nothing is lost.

What about the blessings?

So, the blessings are not expressions of His love? Sure they are. Everything good is from God. It is because of His love.

That family you have. Love.

The food on your plate. Love.

That friend that has stuck with you through thick and thin. Love.

He loves you. More than you know. And when the storms of this life toss you, and you wonder “Does God love me?” The answer is yes. Yes. Absolutely, yes. He sent His Son. And if you have accepted Him, He looks forward to loving you in eternity. Forever.
