God Quotes: A Sacrifice of Praise

Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. (Hebrews 13:15, 16 NLT)

A Sacrifice of Praise

Again, Laura at her blog, Harvest Lane Cottage, encouraged me. She introduced me to a phrase: defiant praise. I encourage you to read her words. At church today, we read Hebrews 13:15-16. Defiant praise and sacrifice of praise connected with my spirit. Yes, I want to defy my natural bent to complain and offer thanks–especially when life hurts. Life isn't perfect, but it isn't miserable either. I have a lot of reason to praise, but I am challenged to dig deeper and offer a sacrifice of praise.

A Sacrifice of Praise

A sacrifice costs. It is weighty to the one who sacrifices. If praise comes through pain or suffering, it is a sacrifice of praise. And God's evaluation of that kind of praise–it pleases Him. He knows it costs to praise Him in the pain. He sees the trust placed in His sovereignty, and He is pleased. Praise Him in the good, too–this is good. But the praise that costs, it is that much bigger to Him.

We are to praise Him continually. Wow, that challenges me. Again and more still, He wants our praise. Do you think it is possible to run out of thanks? Can you finishing listing all of God's awesome qualities? Give it a try.

And Don't Forget

Do good. Help those in need. What a perfect meditation as you begin this week of Thanksgiving.

Praise Him. Do good. Help those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.
