God Quotes: 10 Truths from Colossians 3

Colossians 3

10 Truths from Colossians 3:12-17

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:12-17 NLT

10 observations:

  1. God chose you to be holy.
  2. If your life doesn’t have marks of tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, you are missing some of your spiritual clothes. Go get dressed.
  3. Plan on people not being perfect. Be prepared to forgive. It’s part of the deal.
  4. We are to forgive just like God forgave us. He didn’t wait for us to come to Him. He came to us.
  5. Peace comes from Christ. We are to let that peace rule in our hearts.
  6. We are members of one body–we are called to live in peace with each other.
  7. Always being thankful is possible because it’s a choice.
  8. The message about Christ, in all its fullness, is supposed to fill our lives.
  9. We are to teach and counsel not from our own wisdom but from the wisdom God gives.
  10. Those songs we sing in worship are meant to be sung to God with a thankful heart. “To God” and “thankful heart” are key.
  11. Just as a bonus, this passage uses a form of the word love 2x, forgive 3x, peace 2x, and thank 3x. Wouldn’t our world be a better place with more love, forgiveness, peace, and thankfulness. Repetition in scripture is for emphasis.

Pray to Him now

Jesus, help me to recheck my wardrobe. I know I have not been putting on all that you say I am to be clothed in. Sear the message of Colossians on my heart. Help your peace rule in my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I love this. This is the message I have been trying to convey to others this week. With all the bashing and abuse on social media it breaks my heart. People need to remember that we will make mistakes. We are not perfect. Forgiveness is key! Thank you Cheryl!

Thank you for your encouragement, Malorie. I agree about the social media bashing that happens. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the comments were filled with what was beneficial for the moment?
When I read this passage just a few days ago, my heart was challenged about some “clothing” I was missing.
May God give you grace as you encourage others.
