God Quotes: 10 Truths from Colossians 1:15-20

10 Truths from Colossians 1:15-20

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:15-20‬ ‭NLT‬

Just a few observations:

  1. Christ shows us what God is like. Jesus is the visible God. (Just in case you ever wondered what God was like, He's spelled out what He's like in the person of Jesus.)
  2. God made things we can see and things we cannot see. (Not everything is as it seems. There are things in this world we cannot see. Don't worry about them, God made them. He can manage them too.)
  3. There is an unseen world.
  4. Everything that was created was created for Jesus. (That Jesus shares His awesome creation for us to to enjoy is purely a gift.)
  5. Jesus is the one who holds everything together. (So you don't have to–He's got it covered.)
  6. Christ is the head of the church. (Not your pastor or another spiritual leader.)
  7. Peace with God wasn't free. Jesus purchased reconciliation by His blood.
  8. Jesus is first. (While you have value, it is better to know you are not the most important person.)
  9. God, the Father, was completely pleased with Jesus.
  10. God made a way (through Jesus) so we could be made right with Him.

Pray to Him now

Jesus, thank you that you show me what God, the Father, is like. I don't have to guess or figure it out on my own. Thank you that you are in charge of the seen and unseen world. Thank you for holding everything together even though I am falling apart. You are first, but I confess I don't always live like that's true. Forgive me for not putting you first in my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
