Five Minute Friday: Reach

The word for Five Minute Friday today is reach.

I went to an observatory with a huge telescope. Standing at the base of it was awe inspiring. Then, the excited technician told us we could see the picture of what the telescope was seeing. It was the sun. For a frame of reference, he pointed at a little bitty dot and said that would be the size of the earth. It was a dot. The sun filled the screen. Talk about perspective.

We can see so far into outer space, and yet we have yet to truly see the entire universe. It is so massive and incredible. Earth is an even smaller dot in the expanse of the universe. This creation is an expression of God’s creative ability. His words spoke, and it came into being. The vastness of creation is an expression of Him, and He is so much grander.

And then I remember, that in all of His amazing power. In all His unending knowledge. He reaches down to me.

What inspired these thoughts (beyond the trip to the observatory)?

I have been reading two books. Put together with the trip to the observatory, the thoughts flowed.

Reasons for Belief (This is with the kids. There is a chapter that is about the awesomeness of creation and how our planet is in the exact location in the universe for life among other incredible thoughts.)

The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus. I am reading this with a friend. This book is a great book to lay the foundation of what the Bible is about. When introducing the concept of a Creator God, one must speak of his awesome creation.

There are other great resources to consider when contemplating the vastness of God’s universe. These are two that make a brief reference to it. Some resources are primarily about it. Louie Giglio has a whole series of books and videos about it.

3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you and encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community.

Your post reminds me so much of Louie Giglio’s sermon “Indescribable” (worth googling for the video if you haven’t seen it! I wish I could experience looking into a telescope like that! I am fascinated with the stars, watching the moon glow and love the sunrise. Thanks for sharing! Love your blog design!

      I have seen Giglio’s “Indescribable.” It’s awesome!
I love thinking about the wonder of creation. I’ve been reading with my kids Reasons for Belief by Norman L. Geisler and Patty Tunnicliffe, and that speaks of the amazingness of creation as a proof of a creator.
Thank you for visiting and for your encouragement.
