Five Minute Friday: Dance

The word for today is dance.

Last month, my family went to the fair. There was a traveling act of the Blues Brothers. They danced and sang. In part of the show, one of the guys pulled a lady into the act for a quick impromptu dance together. The lady good-naturedly agreed. It made a nice finale to the show. We clapped and when along on our day.

Later in the day, we saw the Blues Brothers again. This time, I knew what was coming. I gave my older daughter a little jab and asked her if she would agree to go and dance if the guy asked, and she said no. We listened, and before I knew what was happening, he came and grabbed my hand. I decided to have fun with it. It was over before I knew it—it was indeed fun.

Relationships in life are like a dance. Sometimes you watch and don't get involved, but the real fun is stepping up and taking the invitation. (Sometimes you are the one giving the invitation.) Life is too short to not dive in and be a part of the dance.

How do you respond to the invitation to dance (the dance of relationship)?

Are you an inviter? Are you a willing receiver? The dance of relationships are unpredictable (and oftentimes messy), but this life will be over before you know it. Relationships are not all about having fun, but they do add richness to life that can only be had within the context of relationship.

Are these words encouraging to you? Share.
