Five Minute Friday: Change

The word for Five Minute Friday today is change.

Change

Change

I used to think I was very flexible. That I loved change and hated routine and things being the same. Maybe it is because I am getting older or, more than likely, I am more realistic in my estimations about myself. I don't like change. Even when change is “good,” I feel the stress of it. Change means change. A shift of some kind. This requires adjustment.

Marriage is a change. That's a good change, but it comes with loads of adjustment. From two to one is an ongoing shift. After all these years, we are still adjusting to it because we are not stagnate creatures. In the process of becoming one, we, ourselves, are a moving target requiring change.

Having children means change. With each one, life shifts. This is a good change. An amazingly good change. But the shift from just us two to a family of three turned my world upside down. Then we became a family of four, then five, then six. Even here, there is a constant change.

Time to stop!

So much more to write. It's after five minutes, and I feel incomplete. How do others write so much in five minutes? If you will indulge me a few more thoughts, here is my little bit extra:

I don't like change because it requires me to die to self. I am not a fan of that because I prefer ease. But dying to self helps me change to become the me God intends. The change is good, but it requires work and sacrifice. So, I know it's good, but I don't always like it. Change is hard, but I wouldn't want it another way. The stress, the adjustment. It's all worth it–so says I in hindsight.

Five Minute Friday

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.

2. Link back here and invite others to join in.

3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you and encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community.
