Five Minute Friday: Care

The word for Five Minute Friday today is care.

Care starts as a feeling or a thought and translates into action. Sometimes those thoughts and feelings aren't conscious. Sometimes what we care about are best seen by what we do and how react to what happens.

Over this past weekend, my oldest son was in an unusual accident. He was hit by a falling tree branch. This created an entire afternoon and evening at the urgent care. Was it a bother to have my schedule shifted? If it was, I didn't feel it. The most important thing was to make sure my son was getting checked out (and getting the help he needed). I didn't have a conscious Do I care about him? It just went into action.

The next day, we went to the ER. More changes, but we were given an updated diagnosis: mild concussion and acute sinusitis. This took me to the pharmacy with loads of medicines.

After that, my new part time job was to care for my son. To keep him resting. To make sure he got his medicines. To check on him.

All that I had planned prior to the accident had to be shifted. The priority of caring for my son was not so much a decision but an embraced reality. I care (care deeply), and so I care for him.

This is something we all do. We care (with our thoughts and feelings), and so we act out that care. Take a look at what you do, how you spend your time, and you can be sure that what you care about is right there.

Five Minute Friday

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.

2. Link back here and invite others to join in.

3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you and encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community.

“Do I care about him? It just went into action.” You have no idea how I need this today. Being forced to think about a couple of things at church right now, and I’m just not sure I care enough about these issues. What are my actions telling me? I think I’ll start there. What does my reaction do? THANK YOU.

I am so glad my words encouraged you. May God give you wisdom as you look at what your actions are telling you about what is important to you.
