Five Minute Friday: Broken

This word took me back to when my Teenager was a little boy.

When my Teenager was a little, little boy, I didn’t know a lot of lullabies. I knew some praise choruses. “Holiness” was one of them.

It went “Holiness, holiness, is what I long for. Holiness is what I need.”

Then it went to the second verse, “Brokenness, brokenness…”

My boy loved that song.

But, for some reason, he liked the second verse.

He’d plead, “Sing ‘Broken mess,’ Mommy. Sing ‘Broken mess.'”

If I tried to start with “Holiness,” he’d stop me.

Brokenness had to be first.

Of course, I had to change and sing about brokenness.

Is it really what I need?

Over and again.

Day after day. And some days in tears.

I sang.

And many years later.

I’m still in that place.

I feel broken ever so more than I did back then.

I am a broken mess.

I am ready for molding.

Ready for healing.

Ready for holiness.

My brokenness is His.

Note: I wrote about broken before. Check it out here.
