Five Minute Friday: Bacon

The word for today is bacon.

Bacon. I love the smell of bacon when it is cooking. It's one of those foods that the anticipation builds just because of the smell. It's funny how the smell is enjoyable even though I haven't tasted it yet. But, because of the smell, I can almost taste it. I am looking forward to the moment it's on my plate and ready to eat.

I wonder if I could smell Heaven. To dive into the word of God and let it fill the nostrils of my soul. To almost taste it. I do taste it, almost, when I see a beautiful sunrise. When I am snuggling my children. I taste the wondrfulness of the gifts God gives. But I know that it is just the aroma of what is to come. Because anything that is wonderful—amazingly good—is nothing in comparison to what it will be like. Where there is no sin and sadness, no pain and suffering. I am looking forward to the day when I am ready to enjoy the fullness of Heaven. Until then, I will take in the tastes. The hints. The gifts of God that remind me there is something more to come.

Oh, yes! I do think that God blesses us with little scents of heaven! Those very things warm our heart toward Him with the reminder that this is not our home, heaven is, and it will be more wonderful than we can ever imagine 🙂
