30 Days of Thanks: 11.07.13 Music

I am thankful for music. When I was in elementary school, I started learning the flute. In high school, I learned the oboe. In my college years, a friend taught me a little about guitar. I sang in a choral group in college too. I have sweet, sweet memories of being in the midst of music in choirs and bands. Music has been a part of my life, a rich part of my life.

Recently, BunBun expressed a desire to learn guitar. (I love her drive to learn.) She has already been writing song lyrics. Music is a rich source of happiness for her as well. We clipped the nails on our left hands today. We opened a book on guitar we borrowed from the library. E, F, G. It’s a beginning.

I am thankful for music. It has been friend to cheer me up and companion to soothe my aching soul. There are some songs that are my go-to for encouragement or to keep me hopping when I feel drained of energy.

When I was reading By Grace Alone, I revisited a passage in Numbers 6:24-27 that reminded me of my college days. I decided to find the song on youtube. This beautiful arrangement by John Rutter fills me with thankful thoughts about music. God, thank you for music.

The Lord Bless You and Keep You by John Rutter
